Brett Cavanaugh

Growing up on oldies and rock and roll, Brett played in bands since he was 15. He started playing percussion at the age of 18 in a Yoruban drum ensemble under Francis Awe in Los Angeles and fell in love. He played djembe and talking drum in Awe’s group for five years and learned a bit of Latin percussion under Ray Yslas.

In 2007 he left for San Francisco State University to study classical percussion where he met Lior, Tim, Yoel and Rebecca playing in John Calloway’s Afro-Cuban ensemble. With Yoruban roots and rock in his blood Brett stays busy with various projects. He sings and plays keys in the Hoodslam Band at the Oakland Metro every first Friday.
