Black in Space

Multi-artist ZOOLOOK is back with a new music project titled Stonefrenge: Black in Space. ZOOLOOK has begun work on a lofi reggae album featuring animated music videos for each song. ZOOLOOK, a lifelong user of Adobe products, will use Adobe Animate to bring his vision to life in stunning 4k.

Lofi or Lo-Fi is the acronym for Low Fidelity, a type of sound recording that contains flaws such as background noise, hums, and distortion. A fan of the Lofi genre, ZOOLOOK wants to explore it because of its ability to affect both brain hemispheres, allowing the listener to concentrate and focus while keeping the sound weird and unique.

So why Stonefrenge?

A diehard comic book fan and an avid reader of fiction/horror/sci-fi novels growing up in the U.S., ZOOLOOK (Nicholas Da Silva) was disappointed in the absence of black heroic characters in popular culture and American literature. So he spent his childhood reading sci-fi novels by American science fiction author Robert Anson Heinlein to fill the void.

Little did ZOOLOOK know that during the Cold War, there was a black hero who was set to become the first black astronaut in space. His name, Edward Joseph Dwight Jr.

Ed Dwight Jr. had 2,000 flying hours under his belt, an ace combat pilot with a top aeronautics degree. In 1962, Ed trained to be the first black astronaut, a dream not welcomed by a few Americans. Unfortunately, this untold story would end with Ed being denied a place in space.

U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Guion S. Bluford would eventually become the first African American to travel into space on the shuttle orbiter Challenger’s STS-8 mission on August 30, 1983.

Stonefrenge: Black in Space is ZOOLOOK’s tribute to Black Astronauts. Respect!
