“I can’t imagine a life without reggae! I’m always interested and inspired by creative musical experimentations, but…when we sprinkle a lil’ reggae in the mix, it’s simply irie!”

YAZ ALEXANDER

Born in Birmingham UK, Yaz Alexander is one of the UK’s foremost Reggae singers whose musical history spans over twenty years. Having gained recognition from being a longstanding backing vocalist for UK reggae luminaries Pato Banton and the legendary Steel Pulse, the inspiration from this work led her to a solo career. She released her debut album ‘Life Begins’ in 2007 with crowd pleasers like ‘Empress’, ‘Why Me’, and a cover version of the infamous Dennis Brown song, ‘How Could I Leave’. The album also included the smashing hit ‘Still Burning’ that was produced by legendary UK producer Paul Horton. Yaz followed that up with a 2nd album, ‘Cry For Freedom’ with the title track being subsequently used in an edition of BBC TV’s award winning documentary, Panorama. Her 3rd studio album, ‘One Step Closer’, was released in 2010 and quickly reached the #1 slot on Reverbnation’s Reggae chart. Yaz has also recorded and performed with many musical greats including Eddie Grant, Dean Fraser, Tippa Irie, Peter Hunnigale, Willie Stewart (Third World), Musical Youth, Sylvia Tella plus many others. The reggae songstress’ sultry voice has captivated audiences as far a field as Europe, North America and the Caribbean. Her latest project is scheduled to be released in 2015.

On September 27, 2015, Yaz Alexander will perform at ‘Dub Qalandar’, a live event where Sufi Mystic music meets Roots Reggae inna Dubwise mix, taking place at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham, UK.
