It all started very naturally. Jaszol, from Polish Roots Revival Soundsystem, was living in Leicester, UK at the time and got together with Mamba Di Lion from Danish Most High Warrior Soundsystem, who was living in Odense, Denmark.

Both of us had had the idea of an independent record label growing in our heads for quite a long time. If you are a part of the European Soundsystem scene or just into collecting records, sooner or later you find so much unreleased or rare music that you feel it would just be silly not to share with the world. Of course, there’s lots of exclusivity issues and there are people hiding beautiful musical gems only for themselves or just to play it once in a while, but we wanted to spread the music as much as possible.

Our label came about in early 2015 with our first releases being a 7” and 10” of Tracks & Dubs, featuring Paul Fox. It was produced by Dub Akom from southern France, with Johnny Osbourne, Jah Marnyah and Ijah Salomon.

About a year later we teamed up with friends of ours — Tom and Ania, living in London, UK — who specialised in collecting and selling secondhand reggae records. We always knew that the best way to control sales of your own records and be fully independent as a label was to distribute and sell them yourself. The idea of a proper shop had been there since the first record was released. After a few weeks of preparation, our joint label and record shop website was ready. Today we run a fully independent record label with 7 titles released (more to come this year) and a shop with more than 1,000 carefully selected secondhand and brand new reggae records. Our basic idea remains the same — spread the best roots reggae & dub music on vinyl worldwide! Tribe 84 Records / UK / Poland / Denmark
