Fluting

Born in Malta, Europe, in 1960, Manwel Tabone has been into reggae since the mid-70s. He presented the weekly Reggae Club show on Radio Malta between 1989 and 2005. In 1990 he published the first edition of the Reggae World fanzine which lasted four issues.

Manwel T mixed his first dub tune on his personal computer in 2006. Influenced by dub pioneers like King Tubby and Lee Perry, and other dub masters like Scientist, Adrian Sherwood, Jah Shaka, Mad Professor, Alpha & Omega and Zion Train, he uses today’s technology to create works that sound vintage and innovative at the same time!

Artists that have been remixed by Manwel T include Chronixx, Coldcut, Dubmatix, General Smiley, John Brown’s Body, Public Enemy, The Slackers, and Zion Train.

The first Manwel T remix appeared on the ‘Dubnight Vol.2’ compilation in 2008. ‘Manwel T Meets Mind’s Eye Dub At The Temple Of Dub’ was his first album, released by Dubkey Records a year later. It was followed by four sets in the Virtual Dub series on the same Dubkey label. Several Manwel T dub remixes have also appeared on various other labels, albums, singles and EPs.

In the summer of 2014 Manwel T started composing and producing his own tunes: heavy roots reggae instrumentals and dubs, with prominent horns…

“The reggae music I make is a true reflection of my life and character! Sometimes it’s nice, sometimes it’s a bit rough, but always real! It’s my soul expressing itself!”
