IRIE. What does Roots Reggae mean to Cali P?

Cali P: Roots reggae is a musical vibration combined with Word sound and power. It is the music I use to transmit the message of RASTAFAR I straiiiight. It means so much to me because it’s the first music I love. Roots Reggae makes me feel good, and that’s why I want to be part of that, making people feel good, realizing that we really don’t need a lot to have a good time.

IRIE. Do you see yourself as an activist, pushing for positive change through the messages in your music?

Cali P: Yes I feel so. I am a Rebel. I encourage people not to bow down to a system that does not look out for them, I encourage people to not follow Vanity and show real love and unity, and there is many more things. One thing I try not to do is telling one what he has to do or how one has to live as this is really personal. What I do is open eyes and send people in the right direction. If you want to find out then you going to do that for your self. If you just use my music as party music then that’s you.

Still for me I feel accomplished if my music motivates one to think and take certain actions in life. 
Music has that power to make one get up and search. That’s what my music is provoking.

IRIE. Who are some of your musical influences?

Cali P: My influences would be Bob Marley, Bunny Wailer, Peter Tosh, Burning Spear, Big Youth, Fela, Youssou N Dour, Salif Keita, Akiyo, Velo the list goes on and on. I’m not limited when I comes to music. As long as it’s not disturbing my ears and spirit it’s good to go.

IRIE. Are there any artists that you would like to collaborate with on future projects?

Cali P: Yes man. There is a lot of youths that are not even known yet I wana collaborate with, the 
future! It was a wish for me to record with Capleton and I can tell Reggae Mag that this has happened 2 days ago. Yeeeee!!!! So look out for that biiiiig tune!!! 

IRIE. What does 2015 hold for Cali P?

Cali P: 2015 I want to tour with my live band from Jamaica called Warrior Love Band, also I would love to release the Album musiCALI-sPeaKING. We preparing for shows like the a Rebel Salute and for a summer tour in Europe. My wish is to make music in the 4 corners of the world. So i would love to also establish my music more in the Usa and Asia and Africa of course!!!! Ready!!!

IRIE. Is there anything else you would like to share with the IRIE family?

Cali P: I want to give thanks first if all for the possibility you give youths like me to bring the message across the world. This is a blessing. Thank you, all the people who take the time out of they’re day to check what Cali P has to say or do, I love you because you are making me exist to a certain point. I want the people to know when they support me they support not only PIERRE NANON they support my family, a island, a nation a country a whole continent! More to come! Jah bless you all!
