“Jashwha delivers formidable roots reggae – the kind that dominated Jamaica’s sound systems in the mid to late 1970’s.”

In the early 1980’s, Joshua (Jashwha) Moses was one of Bristol, UK’s most popular live performers. He took his brand of Roots Reggae on tour across the UK and Europe, with a stage presence and musical energy that could only be described as infectious! Jashwha has performed and recorded with such greats as Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Dennis Bovell (Africa) and many more.

There is much to be said for taking the time to get things right and this seems to be the philosophy of Jashwha Moses who, from his initial single release in the late 1970’s, took more than 30 years to release ‘Joshua to Jashwha – 30 Years In The Wilderness’ in July 2012.

That was followed in very short order by his next album ‘No War On Earth’ in April 2013 under the Sugar Shack Records label. This was proper roots reggae music with a strong social and spiritual message spread across nine vocals and six dubs. The dubs were spacey and atmospheric, and the album contained examples of vocal manipulation, layering and effects that went far beyond traditional dub reggae arts. This album symbolized the birth of Jashwha reggae ‘Jahggae.’

Spending the next two years honing both his performance skills and his songs through a series of well received live shows, Jashwha’s music has progressed and evolved but, at the same time, delivers more of the same with a selection of roots music infused with his own blend of spirituality.

His next album ‘The Rising’ will be released by Sugar Shack Records in June 2015 and will be available as a vinyl LP, featuring nine songs and also on CD and digital download, both of which will round the number of songs up to an even dozen.

Particular treats will include the songs ‘Crazy (Version)’ and ‘Nothing to Lose,’ where Jashwha utilises his falsetto voice to great effect.

‘Crazy (Version)’ in particular, is very reminiscent of Junior Murvin during his classic Black Ark period which, in itself, is a compliment to Jashwha’s singing ability and also long-term collaborator and producer Mikey Taylor-Hall’s production values. Jahggae has truly arrived – Peace and Love!
