‘Music & Coffee is the healin force’ – Davada Coffee & Records

We arrived in Kyoto, Japan, via the Bullet Train (Nozumi) on Christmas Eve but had to wait a few days to visit the Davada Coffee & Records shop. We stayed at the Onyado Nono Kyoto Shichijo Natural Hot Spring, which was only a half-block walk to the shop and within walking distance of Kyoto or Shichijo stations.

We would walk by the shop, which was closed for our first two days in Kyoto, and peer inside the stylish coffee shop, anxious to go inside and explore the vinyl albums displayed in the shop, which reminded us of the shopfronts in England.

Thursday arrived, and we entered the shop where the owner, Gow, greeted us with a smile and a fantastic cup of coffee. What a vibe!

Davada Coffee & Records houses one of the largest vinyl collections in Kyoto, where the customer can listen and buy records from all kinds of genres ranging from Japanese Pop and American Rock to R&B, Soul, and Reggae, including music from the 50’s, and even Soundtracks.

Davada Coffee and Records is also about community. Locals and tourists come to the shop for their coffee and music fix. Strangers quickly become friends, bonding over coffee while exploring new music.

Davada Coffee & Records opened on November 7, 2019, in Shichijo Kawaramachi, by its owner, Gow! Davada Coffee & Records’ motto is ‘Music & Coffee is the healin’ force!’ Shout out to Gow and the tourists we met. We enjoyed excellent coffee and great conversation at Davada Coffee & Records with new friends Dale & Jaclyn and Shreya & Suhani!

Davada Coffee & Records itself is not that big in size, however, it has three tables and one counter which can easily seat up to 8 people. The cafe walls are adorned with records and music memorabilia. They also have cool merch, including their Davada Coffee & Records t-shirts and record bags. It’s the perfect shop to enjoy matcha lattes or hot chocolate while browsing their vinyl records. Davada Coffee & Records will always have a special place in our hearts and we will be back.
