Ras Attitude

Please Mr. Police

With the message of love, unity and consciousness embedded in his music, St. Croix born ‘Ras Attitude’ is a musical force to be reckoned with. Ras aka Michael Goodwin is the son of gospel singer Harrella Goodwin, and was raised in his grandmother’s church. His mother and grandmother, both well known for their musical abilities are the foundation for his talent. His mother told him that before he was born, she would play music to him by holding a speaker close to her. No doubt, the music found its way into his soul! Ras taught himself to read music and play keyboards, developing his musical skills at a young age, all the while travelling and appearing on stage with his mother as she toured.

At the age of 16, while attending Caribbean Community School, Ras Attitude started entertaining fellow students with the Lunch Room Session as a way to hone his craft. It became the place to be, where others would come to showcase their talents. While still in high school, he became a founding member of ‘Tek-9 Sounds’ along with some neighborhood friends. It proved to be the launching pad to his career.

After high school Ras Attitude went on to attend Becker College, where he was dubbed ‘Attitude’ by Tippa Lee of the group ‘Tippa Lee & Rappa Roberts’ and the nick stuck. While still in school, he performed in clubs, where he crossed paths with Ras Batch, a former member of ‘Motion Band’ with Harrella Goodwin. Together Batch and Attitude created SoundVizion Records.

His debut album ‘Happiness’ released in 2001 paved the way for this soulful roots reggae star. With his magnetic personality and smooth-as-silk voice, Ras Attitude has been in demand worldwide. His harmonic sound was even more evident in his follow up albums including ‘Love Life’ (2004), ‘Holding Firm’ (2005) and ‘Royal Lionage’ (2006). Even with his busy touring schedule in the United States and Europe, he delivered three more explosive albums which highlighted his unique versatility and further established his staying power in the industry: ‘Trodding Home’ (2007), ‘I Meditation’ (2009) and ‘Hold The Vibes’ (2012). These albums include such hits as ‘War To Win’, ‘All We Need is Love’ and ‘Wrath of Jah’, featuring Batch. He has performed with great musicians and singers such as Barrington Levy, Beres Hammond, Lutan Fyah, Batch, Pato Banton, Luciano & Capleton, Sizzla, Lost Boyz, Kardinal Offishall, Nichole Ray and many more.

Without a doubt, Ras Attitude epitomizes true artistry, from his chanting freestyle flow to his trend-
setting style. He leaves audiences captivated with his vibrancy and energy, his message reflecting
love, unity, and positivity. He does it all, from R&B to Pop to Hip-Hop and, most importantly, his homeland’s most popular musical genre, Reggae.

This is a brother with the right ATTITUDE … he’s RAS ATTITUDE! Irie Magazine Logo
