Obeah – Ghosts of our Lives

OBEAH aka Lil Obeah has been focusing in the last two years on spoken word blending dub poetry with deep, meditative basslines & experimental textures, backed by riddims and instrumental produced together with a special local and international crews: his fusion band Crowd Control aka Răzvan & Cosmin Gabăr + Alexandru Raduț, produced by Marius Costache & Lungu Cătălin and with special production from Andrei Cucu & Dub Colossus aka Nick Page, Transglobal Underground aka Tim Whelan & Hamid Mantu plus special productions by Petru Birladeanu.
These Bandcamp releases are part of an ongoing series of intimate spoken word sessions, made possible by Ciprian Brănișteanu of Trei Bețivi Bar, who continues to create space for writers and poets to share their lyrics and voices live.

Last summer, OBEAH released Ghosts of our Lives, a spoken word & dub poetry album created in collaboration with Xqui and Lungu Cătălin, on UK label Wormhole World, limited to a CD edition.
The 12 tracks feature recited vocals, atmospheric sound design, and field recordings by Xqui, and deep electric/electronic bass by Cătălin Lungu, blending into a cinematic, haunting, and poetic soundscap
The album explores the blurred line between the living and the dead, hauntology, human error, mass control through politics, and the failure of both society and love in late capitalism. It is dedicated to Mark Stewart, Rodion Rosca aka Rodion GA, Nick Page aka Dub Colossus, Constanta Vlad Velcov, Maxi Jazz, Keith Levene, Nazamba, Dave Watts aka King L Man, and people lost since 2021.

OBEAH is a Transylvanian producer blending experimental dub & fusion via Sound of Art to Come.
He’s worked with Transglobal Underground, Dub Colossus, Dubokaj & Lee Scratch Perry, Mark Stewart, Jungle, Algiers & Zach de la Rocha, The Membranes, Marius Costache & Petru Birladeanu & more.
His work is defined by the intersection of Balkan & Caribbean music.
