GrooVI formed in 2010 in Porto Alegre, Brasil, performing as a backing band accompanying artists of various styles of music, including Reggae, Hip Hop and Black Music. Their support allowed them to be involved in several projects which were highlighted at the Eunification Project, Elo in the Chain and World Social Forum 2012.
The singers who have performed with GrooVI include Paulo Dionísio (National Product), Marietti Fialho (Obvious Reasons), Marzo Couto (Pure Feeling), Ras Sansão, Ras Mateus (BA), Narrator Kanhanga (Angola), Ras Shanti (Uruguay), Jalani Horton (Virgin Islands), De Apostle (Virgin Islands) and James McWhinney (Big Mountain and Vibes Up Strong).
In 2016, GrooVI recorded their first EP entitled ‘Roots and Culture’. The EP release gave recognition to the compositions of Pablo Seea Rasta, who took on the role of lead vocals for the band, along with members Fernando Catatau (Drums), Saulo Pinheiro (Bass), Amos Pachamama (Keyboards) and William Artuso (Keyboards). That same year GrooVI participated in the superstar program of Rede Globo, sharing their reggae music for all of Brazil to experience.
Guided by the teachings of Rastafari, GrooVI was inspired by the ‘backing bands’ of the Virgin Islands. The acronym ‘VI’ represents ‘New Roots’, music with African spiritual foundations, loaded with wisdom and words of conscience. GrooVI uses the mantra of Reggae music as an instrument of meditation and transformation.
